Sao Joao Baptista is part of the 'festas de romária' (pilgrimage festivals). The celebration of São João Baptista, the birthday of Saint John the Baptist, takes place in Rotterdam on 18 May. The São João, also known as the St. John's Festival or Midsummer Festival, is celebrated by the Cape Verdean community every year at the 'Pracinha d'Quebrôd' (Heemraadsplein) in Rotterdam. This year the São João will be celebrated on Saturday, June 25: it will be a colorful day full of culture, tradition, music, Cape Verdean delicacies, stories and activities for all ages to the accompaniment of the drumming of the tambor.
