(update van 13 feb) Begin februari maakte de Academy haar nominaties bekend. Komende zondagavond (maandag diep in de vroege ochtend aan de Europese kant van de aardbol) is het zo ver. De Oscars worden bekend gemaakt. Hoe relevant zijn de Oscars nog vragen sommigen zich af. Zeer relevant dus. Awards en festivals als de Academy Awards, Cannes, Toronto en IDFA en IFFR vormen jaarlijkse ijkpunten waar niet alleen prijzen worden uitgereikt maar waar naast de commercie ook een flinke hoeveelheid talent bij elkaar komt en hun producten dichterbij het publiek kan brengen.

Power of the Dog

"The Power of the Dog" van Jane Chapion heeft twaalf nominatie en leidt daarmee de Oscarrace. Jane Campion, is voor de tweede maal genomineerd als regisseur en is daarmee de eerste vrouw die deze eer te beurt valt. Haar eerdere nominatie was voor "The Piano."
